Sashko's Story
11 years old
"The boy said that he kept his severed leg pressed to his body to prevent it from bleeding"
January 2024, Sasha and his cousin Alina were going to the grocery store in their native village of Malyi Burluk, Kharkiv region. That day, the girl had just arrived to visit her relatives. On the way to the store, Russian troops started shelling. An enemy shell fell near the children.
Ukrainian soldiers arrived at the scene of the shelling, provided first aid to the children, put a tourniquet on their leg and drove off to meet the ambulance in their car to avoid wasting time. The boy lost his leg, and his sister unfortunately died after 10 days in intensive care.
Sashko underwent many surgical interventions, first in Kharkiv, and then in the Kyiv OHMATDYT in the orthopaedics and traumatology department. In addition to the surgeries, the boy underwent recovery and attended sessions with a physical therapist and a psychologist.
Due to the severty of his case, more than 12 doctors from OKHMATDYT and the Superhumans Centre attended to him.

Get To Know Me
My name is Julie Makki.
1/2 Ukrainian & 1/2 French, born & raised in UK.
In 2022, as a student, I was part of a movement to raise awareness about the war in Ukraine, inspiring others to take action and raised a total of £1,300 for UNICEF Ukraine.
Now, I want to take it to the next level. My goal is to raise £50,000 which will go directly towards helping injured children in Ukraine.
To match the scale of this challenge, I will be running the Biarritz Marathon on 4th May 2025.
This will be the ultimate test of my physical and mental strength, but its nothing compared to the resilience these children show every day as they rebuild their lives.
Join me in making a real difference, together, we can help these children regain mobility and hope for the future.
